Online is here to stay!

humble warrior yoga

With the safety measures put in place at the studio meaning fewer people in the space, Humble Warrior Yoga will continue to offer classes online.

Making this decision, we have decided to make the classes available to all members, and all those buying a month long online class pass.

You will not need to book these classes and the classes will be available for you to follow live, or to rewatch in the closed Facebook group.

So, if you cant make a class, you will still be able to practice along with us, or at your leisure.

If you arent already a member of the group, but are a Humble Warrior member, or have purchased an online class pass, request to join the group here

The classes which will be broadcast online, will be:

Warrior Flow Mondays @ 1830
Wushi Warrior Tuesdays @ 1945
8 Limbed Warrior Thursdays @ 1830
Wushi Warrior Thursdays @ 1945
Nidra Nights Fridays @ 2000
Warrior Flow Saturdays @ 0845

Humble Warrior Yoga Reopens!

If you havent already heard the news, our lovely little studio reopened on Saturday 25th July!

It has been so wonderful to be able to share space, breath and practice with you all again, and heart warming to hear how much that you have all missed the space!

We wanted to reassure you that whilst you are attending classes in the space we are continuing to take your safety very seriously. Initially we have decided to run a reduced and blended timetable, you will be able to choose whether to practice with us online, or in the studio, and class sizes have been reduced to accomodate social distancing guidelines.

The time table for both online, and in person classes can be found here

Happy Birthday to us!

On 6th July, 2019 I was exhausted, excited, and anxious. I had been awake for most of the night, working through to the morning to make sure we had a studio space that was ready to welcome you all.
Our first open day was a huge success, most all of our classes were full, and the feedback was great. By the end of the day I was humbled, and proud of what was being created.
12 months on, I remain proud and excited.
What Humble Warrior Yoga has become has already gone beyond what I hoped. In 12 months, we have grown into an incredible society. A small community of likeminded souls who needed a space to be and breathe. Humble Warrior Yoga is growing into that space. Even through these challenging times, I am buoyed by your warmth and kindness, your desire to stay present and connected – and I’m determined to keep accommodating your energy, your love of your practice, and your spiritual growth.

So whilst I may be sat writing this note on the sofa, instead of in the studio preparing to share a celebration with you all, I am happy that you will all receive and read this. I remain happy as I know that before long, we will be back together, we will be hugging, and breathing, and settling back into ourselves. And I cannot wait.

When ae do come back together, there will be a few short-term changes. These are intended to keep us all safe.

1. There will be no changing facilities.
2. The use of props will be limited.
3. Class sizes will shrink, but we may run more classes.
4. There will be an in door, and an out door.
5. You will need to bring and remain with your own equipment (water bottles/mugs/yoga props where possible)
6. Anything borrowed from the studio must be cleaned at the end of your class.
7. Masks will be available for your use in the studio or you may use your own.

Going beyond the lifting of restrictions, Humble Warrior Yoga will continue to grow. As will what we offer. As we transition into our second, stronger year, our mission, ethos, and purpose will change and grow. I will shortly be asking you all some questions, and these questions will help guide and inform our studio direction, I will create, write, and invite you all to contribute to the Humble Warrior mission statement, and we will make yoga just a small part of what we do, enjoy and indulge ourselves with at the studio.

Yoga is more than a shape, it’s a state of mind. It’s a way of life, it’s a pathway to the best you in any moment. So we will focus on how we can expand our understanding of how we flourish through philosophy and learning. We will continue to stretch our bodies, but in year 2, we will start to also stretch our mind.

I’m excited to work with you all, I’m proud of our little family, and I cannot wait to grow bigger, better, stronger and more resilient as individuals and as a team.

This week, classes will continue as normal, online only, but as from Thursday I am taking a short break, and will be away for a week or so. Whilst I recollect and reconnect, I will be planning how we move forward and ensuring that when we do reopen, I am ready to hit the ground running and am best able to hold space for you, I will be travelling with my mat, and camera, so I may surprise you with an international class – but these will be announced in advance.

Thank you all for your continued support, patronage, patience and strength.
Stay safe Humble warrior. See you soon.
Iain.

Taking back control

Weapon of mass distraction or a force for good? Essentially thats up to you.

I have been thinking about how to do this, video seems to be the media de jour, and it is a fast and effecitve method of communicating to a large group, it conveys emotion, and it makes us feel connected. However, it is another false interaction, its basically just me, talking back at my own reflection. And that goes against what I’m trying to get across.

So I’m sat at my laptop, thnking about my words, my turn of phrase, and I’m thinking about how share with you whats been going on.

As most of you know, I have recenty taken a breath. I have been absent, I havent been videoing classes, I havent been on our social media channels, many of you who have messaged me know that I havent been present at all.

So, first thing to say, sincerely, and humbly, is thank you. Thank you to each and everyone of you who allowed me to be in crisis for a moment or two without putting any pressure on me to be any different. I reached a point where I needed to switch focus, and you guys have been incredible in allowing me the space to do that.

I reached a point of crisis, I was not enjoying teaching yoga, I was making mistakes, I was comparing myself to others, I was overly self critical, I was not serving you in the way I always try to. I was out of control.

So I decided that I had to take back control, and that got me thinking.

See, I have no control to take back, whatever I chose to do, the whirlwinds would continue to swirl around me, my choice was whethr or not I participated in the chaos.

So I switched off, I chose not to participate, I chose not to become part of the chaos, I limited my time on social media, I put my smart phone in a drawer, I sat and journalled, with a pen, and paper, I planned in a notebook, I watched tv, I rediscovered the joy of being present, and connecting to the choices I was making.

Now I’m not asking you to relinquish all of those modern conveniences that are designed to (and very good at) making our lives easier, but I am asking you to be mindful of how this force for good, can also become a weapon of mass distraction.

News happens, emergencies happen, good things happen, I didnt miss any vital messages or news flashes in absentia, I simply chose when and how I responded to them. I’m not there yet, but I’m a hell of a lot better than I was, I’m present, I’m engaging, and I’m smiling.

I picked up the land line, and I reached out to my family, and rather than a few words via a whatsapp message, we had proper conversations that lasted hours rather than seconds, I finally got my garden cleared, and I felt less tense and tight.

Im going to continute to follow the routine I am building for myself, and I am going to keep tweaking it, improving it, and I am going to keep “showing up”.

When you next feel trapped, tight, tense, when you are bing controlled by endless news cycles, screen scrolling and sedation, dont think you are helpless, ask yourself does this connection serve you, I imagine the answer will be no, so turn off your phone, put on your favourite music, grab your favourite book, and start showing up for yourself.

It’s not selfish, its essential.

I’m going to start building a workshop around what Im learning as I explore my own sanity and as I strive to become a higher performing person.

But I wanted to reach out in a personal way, to say with my own considered words, Thank you all, for being awesome.

Humble Warrior isnt just a space to make shapes, its a space to make friends, make changes, make resoutions.

So I Promise to all of you, my friends, that both I and Humble Warrior will continue to change for the better, and I resolve to stay present, to stay here for you, as I know all of you have been here (and will continue to be in the future) here for me.

If you messaged me a kind word, an article you knew would help, then truly, truly, Thank you. I will start reading through them today, but I will be taking my time to digest, and appreicate, not just to skim.

The love, and light inside me, is, as ever, drawn to, and guided by the love and light in each and every one of you.

See you on the mat soon guys.

Iain.

Free pain relief sessions

Do you suffer with chronic pain?

Vicki from @Therapywithvicki has recently trained in Steven Blake’s OldPain2Go, and is now offering OldPain2Go sessions in addition to hypnosis for pain reduction/removal.

For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, OldPain2Go is a unique method through which many people find they can reduce or even remove old, chronic pain. It’s not hypnosis but involves a similar approach. It’s basically a way you can work with your own mind to access the part of your brain responsible for the pain signal, and you can turn the pain down or even off. OldPain2Go is very effective for getting rid of old, chronic pain – you can find lots of testimonials on YouTube if you search ‘OldPain2Go’. There’s also lots of information on the OldPain2Go website: https://oldpain2go.com/

OldPain2Go involves one session, and you need to have been diagnosed by a qualified medical professional and have been prescribed pain medication or pain management. You don’t need to believe in the process, but you do need to WANT to lose the pain.

I am offering these sessions completely free of charge to volunteers for a limited period in February/March to enable me to practice this new technique. I am especially keen to work with people who have osteoarthritis pain or pain from an old injury as these are usually the easiest cases to work with.

If you are interested, contact Vicki directly by email: vicki@therapywithvicki.com
